@buck14001 @mmasnick Mods get hated when they're not doing their jobs properly, or enough. When the users can see the system working and the mods actually getting in there and doing what needs to get done, correctly? They'll let you know.

I was at Fark for 11 years. It shouldn't have been that long. It was never well moderated. When the policy is to actively allow and facilitate flamewars on the regular, people will think the mods are asleep at the wheel.

@mtvcdm Word. It's always a tough thing and I don't think Elon understands that his utopian internet town square rarely is that.

It remains mindboggling to me how many people on the other site feel the need to constantly bash Mastodon. I didn't join a bunch of other social media sites, but I didn't feel the desire to mock them either. It's kinda weird, because it includes people I normally get along with as well.

@mmasnick It's not helping the situation that people are coming around demanding CWs for an ever-evolving subset of posts, something that isn't even in many instance's rules. The mantra can't be that all servers are moderated independently and then expect global adherence to some inter-instance group's rules.

Alright, I've installed the ActivityPub plugin on my blog, which is supposed to hook it into the fediverse. But I'm not quite sure what that does. Any ideas?

@blair_fix It allows your blog to become an instance just like any other server. I see it working now.

For those using the plugin on their blogs for : Replies from Mastodon are coming in with the correct link but as "Anonymous" for a name. I can't seem to find a solution. Any suggestions? I have both AP and webmention plugins installed. Could they be conflicting? Site: dymersion.com/ TIA!

Turned out to need the IndieAuth plugin. Now it works.

Also, I have noticed that comments from That Other Site are not arriving. I have brid.gy setup but it still doesn't seem to work. Looking into that next but any ideas are appreciated there as well.

Finally got my site in my profile. Figured out what was doing wrong. Tried to my blog within the overall site. Nope. Mastodon seems to want your rel=me link on home page of a site. Also love that rel=me is the mechanism here. Easy to do (if you have a site). Go to edit profile on desktop, put your site in profile metadata. Then also on edit profile, copy the verification code, put that on your site's home page. All set, your link should go verified soon.

@dannysullivan You can also add it as a <link> tag in the head section with the same attributes.
