No, the three really have nothing to do with eachother, although two are close. However, all three have a similar underlying issue: tensions between different groups of people. I’ll start with the Mutant part only to say to click the “Read More” link to read about it. This is so I’m not lobotomized for revealing spoilers (although, a publically released trailer can hardly be a spoiler).

Now on to the ports. I find it absolutely amusing that the Bush administration has been warning us of the oh-so evil Islamic terrorists for four years, and now finds itself shot in the foot with this ports deal. Personally, I don’t think there’s much danger in letting this Dubai state run company take over the operations. After all, they’re currently owned by a British company. The difference appears to be that some of the terrorists had operations there, and more specifically some had money running through Dubai banks. On the other hand, we’ve never actually accused the Dubai government of abhoring terrorists (like we did with Afghanistan), so what exactly is the problem here?

The company management is smart to agree to the 45-day review (like they have much choice if they want to administer the ports), but has anyone actually looked at the management of the DP World closely? Half of them are Americans! That shocked me a bit since DP World is state owned, but it isn’t so surprising with all I’ve read about Dubai becoming a new economic center. Also, on the issue of outsourcing, I’ve also seen some op-ed complaining about the on-going of outsourcing, and how it was so bad that our ports were now being outsourced. HELLO!! Pick up a newspaper, folks. They were already outsourced! I swear, some people need to actually read into things before complaining. Now, I understand that port security is important, and I’m all for making sure terrorist weapons don’t get into the U.S., but isn’t the actually security part remaining in American hands? So, what’s the problem, here?

Well, after all that, I’m not sure I want to get started on Israel, but here we go.

Has anyone seen what their Defense Minister said today? That even Palestine’s new Prime Minister isn’t safe from targeted attacks if Hamas continues attacking Israel? What..the..hell? Everyone would be up in freaking arms if Rumsfeld said that about any country’s PM, or a PM said that about Bush. Yet, because it’s Israel, they can get away with it? Isn’t this the same country that was calling for Iran’s ejection from the U.N. when their President called for Israel to be “wiped off the map?” What exactly makes Israel so special that they can threaten people they don’t like, yet when these people do the same thing, it’s oh so evil? Someone please answer this for me for the love of all that is good and tasty!

AND NOW, the MAIN EVENT. LEAVE NOW IF YOU CONSIDER TRAILERS, OR DISCUSSION ABOUT THEM TO BE SPOILERS. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED. THERE IS NOTHING DISCUSSED HERE THAT CAN’T BE INFERRED FROM THE TRAILER, BUT LEAVE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING.

So, the X-Men 3 theatrical trailer came out yesterday. I thought it was awesome, and if the last two movies are anything to judge by, so should the final product. A vaccine to suppress the Mutant X gene? And assumingly from an American company? Isn’t this the same America that said no to Hitler? That (for three hundred years enslaved and oppressed but then) said no to racial discrimination? That is increasingly saying no to sexual orientation discrimination. What exactly is it about the world that when something new comes around, everybody fears it? I think it goes back to the old saying that people fear the things they don’t understand. But, to create a “cure” for it? Isn’t this what Hitler had in mind for a certain group of people? (Albeit this time without the whole killing thing.) Absolutely insane. Now, I’m not saying that Magneto is right that mutants should kill everyone to clear the field for them, but something has to be done to get everyone playing nice.

And Jean! Is back! Assumingly as The Phoenix. From the trailer, watching her walk alongside Magneto isn’t all too reassuring. The undoubtedly strongest of the X-Men (I maintain that she was even stronger than Xavier by the end of X2), now the strongest of the Brotherhood of Mutants? Danger, Will Robinson! But, I can’t say anything more than that, it being a trailer and all. I’ll have a fuller review sometime after May 26th.

So, I do hope I’ve made up for the length since the last (content worthy) entry. Have a good night.
