I’m proud to introduce Maya! Who or what is Maya, you say? Maya is our new puppy! We had been looking around for the last week or so, and today my parents and sister brought her home. Maya is a female black lab, possibly mixed, who’s 10 weeks old. Oh, and the name is not rock solid, but I like it, so I’m sticking by it unless I find out otherwise. Everyone else seems to like it, so I’m guessing it’ll stay.

Well, I’m happy to report that the layout is finally all but complete complete, months after I started. Not much more has been added, but you might notice the header has a few more elements. They’re parts of the originally design, but I had a problem when I added them, and frustrated, I opted to leave them out. I finally got it to work correctly, so there is it.

You may also notice a change to the “Extras” section, in the form of the change of the “Not Including Images” italicized noticed below the Creative Commons notice to “Unless Otherwise Noted.” Early in the site’s life, I decided what I should do about images. I knew I wanted to CC license the site, including images and photos. Then I included an image taken not by myself, but by a family member. Not my work; I don’t own it, so I have no license to be including it with the CC works. So, I decided to have people contact me if they really wanted to use an image.

As not to inconvenience you, I’ve decided to try my best to note when images or photos are not mine. Images that are mine will be found in my photo gallery…if I remember to upload them to there. I’ll also try and make an effort to include a notice with images I post that are not mine. So, there it is.

Hope you like the favicon I threw together (I don’t say this in any cheap way, but it’s nothing special). Just wanted to spruce up the favorites of all 1 people who bookmark this site (myself). Think you got a better one, that uses the same elements? Send it to me: michael at dymersion dot com

Anyway, I mentioned yesterday that if I had to define the name of my website, Dymersion, the example would be the previous entry…or, perhaps a link to it, given its size. To give an understanding of the name itself, I’ll start with where it comes from.

If you’re reading this, then you’re at the new domain, dymersion.com. There was nothing wrong with the old one, I just decided to make the domain a little easier to remember if you are thinking of this site – if anyone actually thinks of this site. Not sure what I’m going to do with the old. I may point it toward a site that is just about me professionally, the job held by “About Dymersion” at the moment.

I’ll be blogging on something a little later, so hurrah for some real content.

So, I’ve decided what to do with this LJ. My paid account runs out in June, and I’ve been debating for some time whether or not to renew my account. Well, the main thing that I liked with paid accounts was the ability to have a subdomain for my blog. Now that everyone has this, however, I think all the incentives have gone away. I don’t use extra icons, and any photos I can host myself. I don’t do voiceposts, and while I use a style that I think only paid users get, I believe it’ll remain when the paid account expires – I just can’t change it, and since the S2 system is so freaking confusing, I never will.

So, what to do? Well, as I’ve shamelessly promoted for some time, I have a main website. I’ve set up ways for you to reply to anything I post (you can just use your LJ URLs to log in), but I don’t want to inconvenience people with an extra step. Thus enter MTLJPOST, a plugin that allows me to mirror everything I post on the site to this blog. That’ll work nicely, as you can still reply here without going anywhere. So, that’s the plan.

Just a quick note to myself for the future…

It is probably important to note that when installing a plug-in, to first make sure it has a php version for the dynamic rendered sections! I found this out the hard way, and for an awesome plug-in too, the Sidebar Manager. Hopefully it’ll come out with one soon. That is all.

Well, since I last wrote something, I’ve gotten this thing mostly compliant. XHTML wise, it’s all compliant up to version 1.1. CSS wise, I’ve gotten compliant in that there are no more major errors, but there are still a good amount of warnings. Umm, ok, so probably noone cares, but thought I’d give an update. In other news, the tweaking of the blog layout still goes on.

A real blog post will follow shortly.

Well, pretty much anyway. Done in the sense that the major work on the blog layout and color scheme has been finished. However, expect there to be some small tweaks here and there over time.

Besides the layout, I’ve added the “Suggested Reading” block over to your right, along with the infamous “About” link. Nothing special, but if you’re bored at some point, give it a read. There will be more there as time goes on, but for now, it’s a start.

Now on to some real blogging.
