Can’t sleep right now, since I had too much to eat tonight, so I’m feeling a bit bloated. Also a bit excited about today.

Always a bit exhilarating when a new day of News 22 is on the horizon. Not only am I directing a show, but I’m directing a show that has, since Tuesday, gone from featuring interviews with two politicians to interviews with three politicians. Yup. Joe Courtney has been added to the list of interviews we will be showing tonight. Me and Steve (the guy who does reporting with me) didn’t conduct this one, but it should be good.

As well as two shows going on tonight, one of our TV 22 alumni is coming up from New Haven to tape a short reel for himself, since he can’t do it at his work place, News Channel 8. We will also be under the viewership of a few people from the (now completely online) campus newspaper. Some talk has been going back and forth about streaming the show on their website. They’re also probably showing up to see the complete story on the new format. So, it’s going to be a big night.

Well, back to bed for me in a few. I need to be bright eyed coming 7:30pm.

You know it’s a good day when you wake up, intending to cover the Health and Wellness Expo your university is putting on, and come out of the expo with not only footage from that, but also a gain of an interview with U.S. Senatorial candidate Ned Lamont and Connecticut state Repesentative Walter M. Palwelkiewicz.

I was so surprised to see Lamont and Palwelkiewicz there, and knew that me and the reporter I was working with had to get an interview. This just isn’t something you can pass up when you have a camera on you. So, we quickly thought up a question, and got our rears in gear over to where he was situated. He agreed to the interview, and we just did it. It turned out somewhat more political than I had intended, so we’ll need to cut some parts out to not appear biased. Palwelkiewicz’s interview had a little more meat on the topic of our question, though.

Still, I’m not complaining! A interview with a candidate of one of the hottest races in the U.S.? Hey, give me Lamont, give me Lieberman; heck, I’d take Schlesinger for an interview on the same question. I was just happy to get it.

If you live in Windham/Willimantic, CT, and you have Chater cable, you’ll be able to see the interview (among other content) LIVE on the News 22 newscast Thursday at 7pm on channel 22.

The local news station aired a debate between the three Connecticut Senatorial candidates, Ned Lamont, Joe Lieberman, and Alan Schlesinger

I can honestly say…I’m not sure who won. I was impressed with some ideas from each candidate.

Oh, lord. Who oh who will I vote for November 7th? I’m still not sure. I’m still leaning somewhat toward Lamont because of Lieberman’s arrogant comments. I’ll never go toward Schlesinger, so there’s one guy who’s eliminated. Still, I don’t know. :-\

Feel free to discuss.

That is, close the literary presses. I have decided that I am going to try and complete my on-going story, The New Regime during National Novel Writing Month in November. The goal of NNWM, in particular, this website, is to wrote a 50,000 word novel by November 30th.

Just tonight I was reminded of the website at another site I visit, and I decided this would be a perfect venue in which to try and complete the story. So, what does this mean? Well, The New Regime is going to be restarted. I will leave its current iteration up, and place the new version under a new category. However, I do plan to add a bit on to the beginning of the story, add some short chapters to before where it begins now, and give a greater history leading up to where the story starts now.

Since the goal of NNWM is quantity, not quality, the chapters may not be perfect. I will go back and edit later, however, I would like to get to the 50,000 word goal. So, don’t expect Shakespeare until I go back and perfect it.

This is certainly one of the bigger commitments I’ve gotten myself into. Hopefully it’ll be worth it.

I’ve got it! In my entry from the other day about Chris Shays’ comments about the Foley scandal, I tried coming up with a political catchphrase for the right to use to counter the one oft-used by the left: “When Clinton lied, nobody died…”. I wasn’t able to think of one then, but I think I’ve got one now.

According to something said supposedly said by Foley’s lawyer, Foley had made his emails whilst intoxicated. Well, combining this factoid with the subject behind Shays’ comments, Ted Kennedy’s involvement in the Chappaquiddick incident, and for allegedly having also been intoxicated during that shocking turn of events, here’s my catchphrase. It even rhymes!

At least when Foley was drunk, nobody sunk.

There you go, Republicans, you have a catchphrase now, that sounds just about as stupid as the one by the left. Please be sure to credit me whenever you use it…on the other hand, never mind. This entry will probably already get taken out of context by somebody who thinks I’m actually apologizing for Mark Foley. In any case, you probably don’t want to use it, at least not right now. You can’t really afford to do anything more to hurt your chances of keeping control in Congress.

Not me, since I already made a Shays rant on Wednesday. And yes, the category is right.

I had an exam in one of my political science classes today. The first thing the professor did was to rant about Shays’ comment. And not only Shays, he complained about how both parties have tactics which he compared to the sometimes childish behavior of his four year old kids. On that account, I must admit, I think he’s right. They really can both act stupid…a lot of times.

I think I should make it clear that this isn’t the typical liberal college professor. Yea, he’s liberal, and readily admits that himself, but he also appears to be more independently minded than some other professors. He gets a lot of his statistics from the Cato Institute, since, paraphrased from his own words, “They’re libertarian, so they hate everyone.” He also listens to Rush Limbaugh and reads people like Ann Coulter as much as he reads Karl Marx.

Man, was he pissed. And I thought I was angry at Panasonic and Apple last night, though I’ve gotten over that now. Anyway, it was an interesting way to start my day.

Yes, I still stand by what I said on Wednesday. While I’m not sure what he said will affect much, he really shouldn’t be surprised if he loses the election. Time will tell…time will tell.

Anyone see what Representative Christopher Shays said today in regard to Foley? If not, read it here.

Well, I guess it’s only fair. The left have their “when Clinton lied, nobody died,” so I guess the right needs something too. Lets see…hmm, can’t think of anything in reference to a Democrat sending sexual emails to young boys. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there’s plenty of liberal sexual predators, just that the damn liberal media doesn’t talk about them, right?

Anyway, the point of this entry. Come on, Shays. It’s less than a month to the election…the Republicans hardly need anything else to go wrong for them. Given that while his statement doesn’t directly affect his Congressmates, we know that certain actions can have a widespread effect across the entire caucus. I don’t think his statement will do much, but that remains to be seen. One poll has Shay’s opponent winning by a few points, though two other major polls do not. He doesn’t need anything that might reverse those other two.

Get with the program, Mr. Shays. We’re in a politically volatile time…if you were going to say anything, you should have waited until after the election results came in.

I have not yet had an opportunity to express my opinions on the television shows I watch. So, here goes. Oh, by the way, here be spoilers:

Battlestar Galactica
I thought this had an awesome season premiere. Two hours of non-stop action and drama. It’s just so easy to get into it. The Cylons are still there; some people are helping them, and some people are resisting. After a number of “terrorist” attacks, the Cylons get pissed, and basically force Baltar to sign an order to have a large number of people the Cylons consider to be a threat executed. Basically, it appears to be anyone with a link to Admiral Adama. Included in the group are Roslin, Zarek, and Cally. They didn’t show many other people, but I guarentee you most probably have a military connection.

I don’t know about some people, but even though I don’t think much of Baltar at the moment, I think he did the right thing signing that order. I may sound extreme saying it, but consider…if he hadn’t signed it, he’d be dead, and the Cylons would just gone through with it, anyway. His imaginary Six is right…he can now live to fight another day. I don’t think Baltar wants the Cylons there any more than the other humans do, except perhaps his girlfriend there.

As for the resistance itself, while I agree with its purpose, I don’t necessarily agree with its tactics. While a suicide bombing will send a message for sure, it’s sure not the right way to go about things, even if the targets are not the smartest people in the world. But, that’s just me.

Alright, enough blabbing about BSG. I thought the episode was great, good production values as always, and a good story arc going on.

It would appear that North Korea isn’t bluffing, and that they have indeed tested a nuclear bomb. This is sad news for the world, that yet another regime has a nuke, not to mention yet another autocratic, care-nothing-for-its-population regime. So, what are the options?

I think the current viable option, at least for the people who’s opinions matter, is continuing the multi-lateral talks that have been going on and off for some time now. NK wanted bi-lateral talks with us, but it seemed that Bush did something right for once, and insisted on including everybody.

The second, and an option possibly being planned, from what I’ve been reading, is some kind of military action. Not a full blown invasion such as in Iraq, but some kind of semi-blockade. Ships from NK would be checked to make sure they aren’t carrying nukes. That would make sense, and would probably garner a lot of support from the international community if NK keeps blowing people off. Also, if things get bad, we could go for the full military invasion, but I don’t think anyone should expect the US to provide all the troops. We’re already spread far too thin, and the Republicans don’t have a hope in hell of getting the Presidency in 2008 if they institute a draft. So, while we could provide SOME troops for such an action, I think a wide multi-lateral force would have to go in effect for it to be viable. I expect we might get more support for it, if things come to that, since we’d be going into a country we KNOW has WMDs.

Then there are sanctions, which I can see being imposed. Well, these will probably do absolute crap, anyway. We might be able to shut down the government, but that’s about it. The people are already starving, anyway, so it’s not like we can threaten the starvation of the population, since it’s already happening.

The fact that NK’s closest ally, China, is expressing reservations about all of this, says a lot. I think China is today’s Soviet Union. I think it wants to be the big Communist leader, with its little brother North Korea following along, rather than it growing taller than big China. China might be Communist (or…one-party capitalist), but they’re not stupid. The last thing is needs is someone else becoming a threat to its power. It already is surrounded by people it doesn’t necessarily like, all who either are nuclear, or have friends that are. Russia, India, Pakistan, Japan, and it goes on. It doesn’t need someone else with that power, particularly when its leader would probably like nothing more than to supplant China as the Communist leader.

That’s my take on it.
